Monarchs Back On Track, Reach Double-Digits In Wins

MARYSVILLE – For a high school basketball team, it’s always nice to reach double digits in wins in any given season. So how sweet must it be for the Marysville girls to reach that mark needing only 11 games to do it.

The now 10-1 on the year, the Monarchs broke into double digits in the win column Wednesday using a combination of sticky defense, good shooting and excellent rebounding to post a 51-42 win over Mount Notre Dame in non-league girls varsity basketball action at Competition Gym.

The Monarchs shot 17-of-40 from the field, including 4-6 from three-point land, for a combined 42 percent and crushed visitors on the boards, 28-15. Twenty of the Monarchs caroms were on the defensive end, thus denying the Cougars of second-chance points. The Monarchs held the Cougars to just 25 percent shooting (10-of-29), seven of which were 3-pointers. Marysville limited Mt. Notre Dame to eight, nine and six points, respectively, in the first three quarters before the visitors exploded for 19 in the fourth after the game was well in hand for the Monarchs.

Marysville did, however, turn the ball over 19 times, including allowing 12 steals, in the game.

Now a sparkling 10–1 team, Marysville gets the New Year holiday off and next travels to New Albany Tuesday, January 3, 2023 with a varsity tip set for 7:30 p.m.
