MEVSD Issues Statement on Bus Incident

Monarch Families:

I am writing to make you aware of a situation that took place this morning on one of our school buses. While traveling to Bunsold Middle School to drop off students before going to MHS, one of our transportation team members overheard an MHS student talking about having a gun to another student. The transportation staff member handled the situation quickly and alerted the Bunsold Middle School administration.  Bunsold Middle School administration worked directly with police to search the bag and found an unloaded gun, no ammunition and a knife. At this point in time, we are not aware of a specific threat or intent to harm. The Marysville Police Department is working collaboratively with MEVSD administration as the investigation is ongoing.

I would like to thank our transportation team for their actions and keeping our students safe. I would also like to thank the Marysville Police Department for their partnership in keeping our schools and community safe.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility.  Together, we can keep our community safe.  This serves as a great reminder that if you hear or see something, you need to do something. If you or your child hears or sees something, you can report it directly to a trusted school employee or submit your concern via our Stay Safe. Speak Up! system which is accessible on the district website.

Sincerely,

Diane Allen

Superintendent
