Jacob Daniel Ropp

Jacob Daniel “Jake” Ropp, age 38, of Marysville, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 8, 2022 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Operator of his own semi transport company, “6R Transport,” he was an associate of JF Express Fr8 LLC in Marysville and a former driver for Larson Transport in East Liberty. A 2002 graduate of Marysville High School and a participant as an Explorer with the Allen Township Fire Department, Jake was an EMT and firefighter and began his emergency service career with Northern Union County Fire Department in Richwood. He also was associated with Leesburg Township Fire Department, Union Township Fire Department and Northeast Champaign County Fire District. He also was an employee of Kirby’s Towing for many years and worked at Sunbelt Rental. A member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Marysville Lodge No. 1130 and lovingly referred to by his family as “Shaky Jake,” he was known as a hard-working soul. He was generous of his time and energy and “never knew a stranger.” Deeply influenced by both his grandpas, Jake worked tirelessly as a child, whether for his “sidekick” Grandpa Althouse’s Heating and Cooling business, plowing snow for neighbors on his John Deere tractor, working alongside his father in the family trucking business or serving as a good Samaritan in the middle of the night. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and bass tournaments. He was a Harley rider and a member of FFA and 4-H, with his horse, Skippy. He also loved his dogs, Tuff, Oscar and Dakota and his cats, Jethro and Bandita. He liked the county fair, tractor maneuverability competitions, tractor and truck pulls, wrestling and bull riding. Essentially, Jake liked anything with wheels and went “vroom vroom!” His sweet, promiscuous stories of himself as a child are endless. He was born October 19, 1983 in Marysville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, David and Ruth Ann Moore Ropp, Rev. W. Glenn Althouse, his nephews, Aaron Humble and Michael Andrews, II, and his father-in-law, Vaughn Organ.
