Carl C. Smith, Jr.

Carl C. Smith, Jr., age 85, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Marysville, Ohio, died Friday, June 30, at the Sanctuary on Tuttle Square, with his wife by his side.  He had a long battle with NPH, Dementia and a stroke. He was born in Plain City, Ohio, on August 29, 1937 to Carl and Margaret Fippin Smith.

He held many jobs throughout his life and always stayed busy.  He did electrical work, farming, building and was the owner of Custom Farm Services with a trucking business. He enjoyed sponsoring the Buckeye Cruises for several years.

He loved traveling with his family and his time on Lake Erie. He also enjoyed breakfast at the farmers table at the Der Dutchman for many, many years. He didn’t know a stranger and was known to always have a smile and a boisterous laugh. Those will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Carolyn, brothers Jim and Mel and sister Carole (Godfrey) Rings and a brother-in- law Jim Sanders.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; children: Larry (Susan) Smith, Carla (Rodney) Jacobs, and, Glenn Smith. Grandchildren; Erin, Justin, Kyle (Emma) Jacobs, Sarah (Wesley) Brofford, and Emily (RJ Yoder) Jacobs. Tiera Smith and Kaitlyn Smith and eight great grandchildren.  Sister, Gale Sanders. Sisters-in-law: Juanita Smith and Julie Smith and nieces and nephews.

Also survived by Loretta’s children: Lonita (Norm) Mast, Linda (Ken) Yutzy and her grand and great-grandchildren, especially great-granddaughter Rory Yutzy who had such a great love for him.

Carl and Loretta attended Northwest Chapel in Dublin until they were unable to attend in person and then enjoyed the services on Live Stream.  Pastor Rob Barlow gave spiritual support and encouragement through Carl’s illness.

Loretta would like to thank Capital City Hospice and the Sanctuary for the wonderful care they gave Carl.  The staff of both were outstanding and they really cared about him and her.  She would also like to thank her daughter, Linda, for all the care and help she gave her.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday July 5th, 2023, from 12 PM to 3 PM at the Ferguson Funeral Home 202 East Main Street Plain City, Ohio 43064. A Funeral Service will follow at 3 PM with Pastor Rod Barlow officiating.  Private interment to follow at New California Cemetery.  Ferguson Funeral Home Plain City, Ohio is honored to care for the Smith family.
