Bob Borden

Robert “Bob” Borden passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023 at Bluebird Retirement Community in Marysville, Ohio.  He was born July 2, 1937 to the late Ross and Pauline Borden and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1955.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Betty Rausch Borden in 2020; a brother, William “Bill” Borden; his sisters, Betty C. Borden and Rebecca (Lee) Schalip; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Rausch and Lee Rausch; and his son, James (Pete) Anderson.

He is survived by a brother, Ben Borden of Orlando, Florida; a sister-in-law, Joan Borden of Somerset, New Jersey; his daughters, Teresa (Glen) Farley of Marysville and Carol (Charlie) Nelson of Punta Gorda, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Tanya Anderson of Milton, Florida; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several close nieces and nephews; and many others, including a special friend, Tim Shirer.

A lifelong Union County resident, Bob was known as a master mechanic and craftsman who could build or repair anything. Following high school, Bob began working on John Deere tractors, a brand he honored his entire life. He later joined the Ohio Army National Guard becoming a diesel and truck mechanic. Bob spent 30 years in the National Guard rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After retiring from the National Guard, Bob continued his career working for the Union County Engineers Office, Honda, and UCATS.  He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marysville.

Bob enjoyed farming, gardening and helping his family and friends complete whatever project that needed his expertise. Bob constructed his own log cabin which he and Betty lived in for over 35 years. He loved playing with his grandchildren and normally had a dachshund or two in his home as a family pet. His kindness and sense of humor will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Tuesday September 19, 2023 at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
